5 Months Old

Today Gabe turned 5 months old. David & I cannot believe how much he has grown & how fast time has flown by. Gabe has gotten over much of his crying & fussiness & seems to be a happy little boy overall. He is quick to smile at nearly anyone, especially after just waking up. He has started to giggle often as well, finding a wide assortment of things amusing.  He loves to be sung to & even dances around to the radio with Daddy.  He is very alert all of the time & very curious about what is going on.  His latest fascination is watching people eat.  He just looks like he is concentrating so hard as he watches us scoop food or take drinks.  He will even go so far as to imitate us by chewing his tongue.  We are planning to start him on cereal sometime in the next few weeks.  Probably after his next doctors appointment when we see how he is progressing.

He has started rolling over quite a bit & now prefers to lay on his stomach.  He has also started to roll in his crib at night.  Typically there is not enough room for him to get all the way over, so he has become a sometimes side sleeper.  He looks adorable passed out on his side.  :)  Gabe continues to be quite vocal.  He continues to coo & will let you know with a scream if he doesn't like something.  He has recently started "yelling" for extended periods of time.  He just seems to be loudly talking to something & definitely voicing his opinion.  His stuffed tiger seems to receive a lot of this scolding!!!

Overall, Gabe is such a joy to both of us.  His little smile & a slight cuddle make every day so much better!

David had trouble getting Gabe to nap one day because he was overtired.  He finally put him in our bed, & they passed out together.
We are currently working on sitting up.  He typically ends up as a "Gabe sandwich" but is getting better & better each day.  I'm just looking forward to not having to use the infant tub anymore.
Mr. Smiles!!

He was originally sitting up but then fell over.  He was very happy to just lay like this, talking away & kicking his leg.

Rolling Over

While at Grandma & Grandpa's, Gabe decided to roll from back to front for the first time. Of course when neither Mommy or Daddy are around! He has since gotten very speedy & doesn't spend much time just laying on his back if he can help it. It cracks me up when he tries to roll but there is no room & he runs into the wall or the table or a person!

Recent Pictures

Gabe really loves looking at this monkey on the shelf above his changing table, so I took him down for Gabe to look at (& attempt to suck on).
This is Gabe's "I want to lick you!" face. My favorite part is the drool that is running down his chin.

We got a borrowed jumperoo from a friend of my sister. Gabe's legs are not quite long enough so only about two toes reach the ground. He really enjoys the jumperoo & all there is for him to play with & look at. He likes to also pull his legs up & just hang there. In this pic, both of his legs are off the ground, & he was actually looking at me instead of trying to eat the frog!
We recently got the high chair out for Gabe to sit in. He wasn't happy on the floor anymore while we ate so he had been sitting on my lap during quite a few meals. So, I decided to put him more at our height & give him some toys. He is not quite sure about this yet but can be entertained for long enough for us to shovel down food. He looks so little here.

Grandma & Grandpa Timm

At the end of July, David headed to Vegas for a week to spend some time with friends & family. Gabe & I were invited, but I didn't think it would be so fun with a four month old. :) So, while David was gone & I was at work, Gabe got to go to Grandma & Grandpa Timm's house. It was very nice to have family close by who could watch him for us. He was also familiar with them so I had no worries. It was also special because they were moving to Illinois the next week. Another added plus was that Aunt Jenna was there to help. Gabe adores her, & she does exceptionally well with him.
The night before his first day, we make a quick trip over to drop off all of his stuff. It's sad that a few days of babysitting requires a jumperoo, a floor mat, blankets, diapers, extra clothes, a baby bathtub & more. Each morning I dropped Gabe off around 8 am & didn't get back to pick him up until 5:30 pm or so. The first couple days were a little rough because Gabe has preferences about where he sleeps. He had trouble taking naps so was he was a little grouchy. After a couple of days, he seemed to adjust & did just great with them. He helped Grandma pack up a bunch of things, clean & ran errands with her. He hung out a lot with Aunt Jenna & her boyfriend Scott. Jenna took some very adorable pictures of him, but they are on Mom's camera in Illinois. I will have to post them later. (Hopefully)
It was also very nice for me to have Gabe there. I could make quick calls during lunch, & I also got dinner when I arrived. We spent most evenings over there & Gabe even took his night time baths. Grandma & Grandpa moving was not very easy for any of us, but this extra time with them was very special.

Again Gabe?!?

So I knew when we had a little boy that things would be never be the same and that there would be some funny stories along the way. Last night Gabe pooped in the tub for the THIRD time in his short life. The first time he was under six weeks old, so it really was not such a shock. The second time was a month and a half ago shortly after his surgery I believe. Both times it was at the end of his bath so it was a quick pull him out & dry him off. However...this time we were at the beginning, and I could only think "really? seriously Gabe?" I currently give him a bath in his baby bathtub in the tub in the bathroom because his bathroom is not big enough for it to be on the floor. So, it was just the two of us, and we had just washed his face & gotten the rag all soaped to wash the rest of him. He did give me some warning bubbles as he tooted, but I really just hoped that he would stop after that. Nope, out came some poop....I quick tried to fish it out with toilet paper. But he went some more. So, at this point I have to decide to let him finish in the tub or try to take him out before he's finished. Ewwwww!!! We waited & I couldn't help wondering "why is David out of town???" I had to lift my slippery (& now dirty) little boy out of the tub & onto his clean towel waiting on the floor. And there he laid for the next few minutes while I dumped the water down the drain, rinsed out the tub, refilled it & got clean wash cloths & towels. He was happy as can be laying there all wet!!! I couldn't help wondering if he would now choose to pee just complete the experience....but he didn't. I put him back into the tub for his second bath & actually got him all washed this time. He seemed very content, even during the slight lecture he got about pooping in the tub. :) The only thing to do now is to laugh at our experience & hope that it doesn't happen again soon!! Here are some clean pics of Gabe after other baths.
